The cool autumn wind from the lake channeled back along the streets and the alleys as it made its way farther into the city. The grey unseen clouds in night sky held the warmth of the city close to the surface.
The keg had run dry so Jack volunteered to go out and get a couple of cases so that the party could continue. The light ahead was turning yellow, so he slowed to a stop.

Alex was surprised when she was asked if she would accept an assignment to the Chicago police department. She learned that she was being asked to investigate internal corruption of the department. She said she would have to think about it.
Her decision to accept was immediate when she received a threatening phone call from a person claiming to represent the Chicago mafia.

She immediately realizes that the threat that was made on her was already in the process of being executed.
She takes immediate counter measure actions.
Her quick action and the immediate response of her team nullifies the mafia's attempt.
The action against the mafia boss is taken not by Alex but by the Gulf Cartel who warned the Mafia to keep away from Alex.
Having a drug cartel shielding a law enforcement individual is a surprise to all involved.
