There is considerable interest in the issue of equal opportunities, most of it directed at the underachievement of boys. In this book, Kate Myers and her team of contributors describe their involvement in national, local and school level equal opportunities projects that followed the Sex Discrimination Act and the establishment of the Equal Opportunities Commission in the mid-1970s. The main concern at that time was the under representation of girls in specific areas of the curriculum and work place. There was no national curriculum and it was common practice for girls and boys to take different subjects and be offered very different opportunities and experiences through the overt and covert school curriculum.
