A remarkable book about a special hotel in Brazil, designed by Wilbert Das (former fashion designer) and his partner Bob Shevlin (former marketing manager).
ON CRAFTING HOSPITALITY
by Lidewij Edelkoort
This is not a coffee table book and it is not a travel book. It feels like an object more than a book. The publication is designed as a testimony for tomorrow, on how an ideal society could live together in crafted harmony and with nature. The holistic quality of the project forces our esteem and invites us to further investigate its essential pillars of hospitality and humanity, care and well-being, education and aesthetics, design and craft and empowerment, gardening and partying, textiles and art as well as food and beverage.
Born from the vision of two design driven individuals, the Dutch designer Wilbert Das and the American educator Bob Shevlin it appeases and arouses the senses in equal dimensions.
The UXUA hotel is a unique experience for the soul.
Each guest is anonymous and cherished, needs and demands are anticipated, and staff is educated and send to university. Food is elevated to a rare level and crafted artefacts are to be found in each room as well as public space, like living in a gallery. In this hotel everything is designed and crafted by Wilbert and this makes the experience unique, the concept is certainly copy proof. It is one thing to have a handwoven throw for the beach in your room, that changes when the textiles are woven to taste on the premises.
