Being a mum of two children of mixed heritage, the author Hannah Barker saw first-hand the different experiences and struggles that her children faced, being from two cultures. He didn't understand why it was so hard to find books featuring a protagonist that he could relate to, which she saw was disheartening. In writing about Gio and his dino friend, Hannah hopes to show the power a diverse picture book can have in promoting children's positive reading experiences.
