While conducting cover cybersecurity operations in Thailand against the Chinese, the polyorchid Navy SEAL Tom moves his base to Chiang Mai. He continues his search for a Thai wife. He learns from Bpee, the gorgeous ladyboy working at Lucky Massage in Bangkok, that his first true Thai love Joy has committed suicide by hanging. Tom explores the massage parlors in Chiang Mai to overcome his grief. He meets a beautiful ladyboy named Wan, and the American must come to terms with his own sexuality. Tom falls in love with a beautiful, bronze-skinned, Thai goddess named Star. When he decides to propose marriage, he learns that Star is already married. The deceitful, materialistic beauty plots the Navy SEAL's murder with her husband. The suspense builds as Tom appears to have met his match.
The story is narrated by a character who is a Nobel laureate in literature, writing about Thailand. The COVID-19 pandemic pins him in Annapolis, Maryland. He has two lovers: one a young Thai food-delivery girl and the other a Vietnamese woman working at the United States Naval Academy. The narrator shares his personal mental struggles, fight against alcoholism, parents' tragedy, thoughts about the coronavirus, and details of his love affairs, as well as many insights about Southeast Asia.
