In Book 27, The Graduate Years, Pawel enters Montclair State under the tutelage of Jonathan Silver and Peter Barnett. He meets a love from his past, Joan. They renew their relationship and become lovers again. However, this relationship ends after their first year at Montclair. They were the featured artists of the program at they represent the college at a State-wide Exhibition. During his first summer in the township of Montclair, he begins a new business of house restorations. He is very successful in this venture, hiring fellow students from the college. His second year in the Graduate Program, he meets Marguerite. She turns out to be his female self. They become quite an item on campus. He is also re-united with Bernice after a gala at Ramapo for their graduated students. His Romantic career is still intact in New Jersey. He receives a visit from two friends from Paris.
Pav moves on to Evanston, Illinois and Northwestern University. He finds midwestern life to be less hospitable than anywhere he had ever been before, except maybe Vietnam, but he still isn't sure which was worse. Pav finds he has to struggle to find success and love in the land of Fraternities and Sororities. He feels he made a big mistake coming to Chicago. Has his luck finally run out amidst the cornfields and midwestern morality? Will his guardian angel still protect him?
