The Pleasant Comedy of Old Fortunatus is a play written by Thomas Dekker in the 16th century. The play follows the story of Old Fortunatus, a man who possesses a magical purse that never runs out of money and a wishing hat that grants him any wish he desires. However, he is also cursed with a shortened lifespan. Old Fortunatus travels to various locations and interacts with a variety of characters, including a greedy emperor, a virtuous queen, and a group of mischievous fairies. The play explores themes of wealth, power, and morality, as well as the consequences of one's actions. It is a witty and entertaining work of Renaissance drama that continues to be performed and studied today. This edition of the play was published in 1906 and includes an introduction and notes by Arthur Symons. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
