Omschrijving

The Loss of the S.S. Titanic is a non-fiction book written by survivor Lawrence Beesley, which recounts the tragic events that led to the sinking of the Titanic on April 15, 1912. Beesley was a second-class passenger on the ship and provides a firsthand account of the disaster, as well as the aftermath and rescue efforts. The book is divided into three parts, the first of which describes the ship's construction and maiden voyage from Southampton to the North Atlantic. Beesley vividly describes the luxurious amenities and the excitement of the passengers as they embarked on what was supposed to be a safe and comfortable journey. The second part of the book focuses on the night of the disaster, as the Titanic struck an iceberg and began to sink. Beesley describes the chaos and confusion that ensued, as well as the bravery and heroism of some of the passengers and crew. He also recounts his own experiences and emotions as he struggled to survive in the freezing water. The final part of the book deals with the aftermath of the sinking, including the rescue efforts and the impact the disaster had on the world. Beesley also reflects on the lessons that can be learned from the tragedy, including the importance of safety regulations and the need for better communication and coordination in emergency situations.Overall, The Loss of the S.S. Titanic is a gripping and poignant account of one of the most famous maritime disasters in history. Beesley's firsthand perspective and detailed descriptions make it a valuable resource for anyone interested in the Titanic or the history of ocean travel. It is related that on the night of the disaster, right up to the time of the Titanic's sinking, while the band grouped outside the gymnasium doors played with such supreme courage in face of the water which rose foot by foot before their eyes, the instructor was on duty inside, with passengers on the bicycles and the rowing-machines, still assisting and encouraging to the last. Along with the bandsmen it is fitting that his name, which I do not think has yet been put on record--it is McCawley--should have a place in the honourable list of those who did their duty faithfully to the ship and the line they served. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
