Scissor superstitions have been around for as long as paper and fabrics have existed. Scissors can create as well as destroy as Bob Martin soon discovers after he inherits a pair of beautiful hand-crafted embroidery scissors from his maternal grandmother. The scissors have been given to her as a wedding present by an Italian dressmaker who in order to ward off bad luck accepts a penny in exchange. Bob, the inveterate romantic, trades the scissors for a kiss. Years later a chance find at a French brocante sale leads Bob back to his first love and the beginning of an extraordinary journey taking him along the path of obsession, phobia, superstition and coincidence. Bob uncovers a disturbing history about which he begins to feel personally responsible but over which he senses he has little control. A tale of murder, love, intrigue and tragedy that leaves Bob wondering if his own destiny is somehow linked to that of the scissors.
Set in Northern England, France and Italy.
A sweeping scenario tinged with just a little bit of old-fashioned nostalgia beginning in early 20th century England and leading to a futuristic Post Brexit Europe.
