Omschrijving

The King's Henchman is a play in three acts written by Edna St. Vincent Millay. The play is set in medieval England and follows the story of a love triangle between the King, his henchman, and a beautiful young woman named Alisande. The henchman, named Karl, is fiercely loyal to the King and has been tasked with keeping Alisande safe from harm. However, as he spends more time with her, he begins to fall in love with her. The King, who also desires Alisande, becomes jealous of Karl and their relationship becomes strained. The play explores themes of love, loyalty, jealousy, and betrayal as the characters navigate their complicated relationships. The King's Henchman was first performed in 1927 and is considered one of Millay's most successful plays.1927. In addition to publishing three plays in verse, Millay the Pulitzer prize-winning American poet, also wrote the libretto of one of the few American grand operas, The King's Henchman.
