Vance Thompson (1863-1925) was an American literary critic, novelist and poet. His books on healthy living include "Eat and Grow Thin" and "Drink and Be Sober." However, he is best remembered for his forays into fantasy and science fiction, including The Carnival of Destiny (1916, about reincarnation); The Scarlet Iris (1924, supernatural horror); and The Green Ray (1922-although it turns on a hoax rather than true science fiction.)
