Omschrijving

The Corsair is a narrative poem written by the famous English poet, George Gordon, Lord Byron. The poem was first published in 1814 and tells the story of the corsair, Conrad, a pirate who is feared by all who know him. Conrad is a complex character, both feared and admired by those around him. He is a man of action, who lives by his own code of ethics, and is not afraid to take risks. The poem follows Conrad as he falls in love with a beautiful woman named Medora, who is the daughter of a Pasha. However, their love is short-lived as Medora is kidnapped by a rival pirate named Seyd. Conrad sets out to rescue her and the two engage in a fierce battle. In the end, Conrad is able to rescue Medora, but he is mortally wounded in the process. The Corsair is a tale of adventure, love, and honor, and is considered one of Lord Byron's greatest works.Him Juan sought, and told of their intent; -- He spake not -- but a sign express'd assent. These Juan calls -- they come -- to their salute He bends him slightly, but his lips are mute.
