The immortal King Hoseki lives all alone in his rainbow-making diamond palace. He is sure that he is the greatest and that nothing in the world could compare to the rainbows his palace makes. One day, he decides to fly around the world and prove that his glory is unmatched with his own eyes. It's not until he sees the smiles of the orphaned children who live in a dwelling made of sticks that he begins to reflect on his own definition of wealth.
He meets a group of ants living in a garden who live in a small ant hill along his journey. King Hoseki sees the smiling faces of the ants and sees the mound of dirt that they live in. When Doro, the queen of the ants, explains to him that it is better to live in the dirt with many friends within than a palace made of diamonds with no one to share its beauty, he realizes what true riches are! In the end, King Hoseki learns that he needs a family and decides to adopt the orphaned children. He gains something even more precious than his diamond palace - the love of a family.
