The Stonehenge and Avebury World Heritage Site is universally important for its unique and dense concentration of outstanding prehistoric monuments and sites which together form a landscape without parallel. It covers approximately 52 square kilometres of land in Wiltshire. The Stonehenge and Avebury World Heritage Site Management Plan sets out the strategy for the protection of the Site for present and future generations. The primary aim of the Plan is to protect the Site's Outstanding Universal Value, taking into account other interests such as farming, nature conservation, tourism, research, education and the local community. It also explains the significance of the Site, outlines the key management issues and long-term aims, as well as the detailed actions for achieving them.
