With the increased participation in sport worldwide, the field of sports medicine is becoming increasingly more significant. Whilst some of the injuries which occur in sport are similar to non-sporting injuries, others are very specific. Those working in the fields of sport, sports medicine and the treatment of sports injuries not only need to understand the general workings of the body but they also need to understand the sports and the physical stresses that are placed upon the body by particular sports.
