Caleb is the lesser counterpart of Joshua. Together they spied out the land of Canaan before the Israelites entered it. They were the only spies who came back with a good report of the land and encouraged the Israelites to take it as God had promised it to them. The other ten spies frightened the Israelites by saying there were giants in the land and they couldn't possibly fight with giants. As a result, God said that the Israelites would wander in the desert for forty years until all of their generation died except Joshua and Caleb. Their children would be the ones to inherit the promised. Because Joshua and Caleb were part of the nation, they were forced to wander with their disobedient brothers. How did Caleb respond to the hardships, plus the deaths of everyone he had known except Joshua? What promises of God did he count on as reliable?
