This book proposes to utilize the available energy at the canal falls which are abundantly available in our irrigation system to generate electricity. This is a source of energy that is not yet been considered or utilized but possess huge potential. The canal falls are mainly differentiated under two categories, firstly those canals which have more than 1 meter fall and the second is the canal with less than 1 meter fall. Till date a very small part of the potential is assessed by the Irrigation and Power Department. It is analysed from the available data that there are just a few falls identified which are less than 1 meter and they have the total power potential of 82.649 MW in the country. Whereas on the other hand the canal falls that are more than 1 meter are about 600 in number whose estimated total potential amounts to 751.587 MW within the country. These are just a few of the sites that are identified till date but there are thousands of sites that still are to be explored and exploited.
