The story is set in the 18th century and revolves around the character of Olivette, a young and beautiful peasant girl who falls in love with the nobleman Marquis de Chteauneuf. However, their love is not accepted by society due to their different social status. The operetta is filled with catchy tunes and witty lyrics, and features a range of colorful characters such as the scheming Countess, the bumbling Mayor, and the lovestruck farmer. The music is a mix of classical and popular styles, with lively dance numbers and romantic ballads.Olivette was a popular success when it premiered in Paris in 1881, and it went on to be performed in theaters all over the world.
