L'un est photographe, artiste de la lumière et des courbes. L'autre ne revendique qu'un seul diplôme, celui de « licence es curiosités ». Le premier ne connaissait pas Nîmes, alors que le second y vit depuis des années et a appris à découvrir sa ville et à l'aimer. De leur rencontre est né ce magnifique ouvrage.

Chanel Koehl et Alain Delage nous invitent à flâner dans un ensemble patrimonial exceptionnel, depuis les mythiques jardins de la Fontaine jusqu'aux murs colorés du quartier Gambetta. Ils ont composé cette promenade photographique qui nous entraîne de l'Antiquité au XXI^e siècle, dans un décor où monuments millénaires côtoient des oeuvres architecturales très contemporaines.

The first is a photographer, or rather an artist who uses light and curves. The second claims just one degree, that of a « licence to be inquisitive. » The former does not know Nîmes, whereas the latter has been living there for years and has learned to discover and love this city. From their first meeting was born the idea of this magnificent testament to the historically fascinating city of Nîmes.

Chanel Koehl and Alain Delage invite us to amble through an exceptional heritage site, from the mythical Fountain gardens (jardins de la Fontaine) to the colourful walls of the Gambetta quarter. They have compiled this photographic stroll that takes us from the Roman Empire through to the 21st century, in a setting where thousand-year-old monuments rub shoulders with very contemporary architectural buildings. It is because of the authors' converging points of view that Nîmes is revealed in all its diversity, its charm, and its personality. And, beyond its heritage and history, it is the whole art of living in the Nîmes way of life that is beautifully revealed to us, the reader.
