Nicolas Lefeuvre spent fifteen years in Asia as creative director for Chanel before deciding to devote himself entirely to his art.
This monograph looks back at the last eleven years of his artistic creation, brought together under the title Ink Works. Luminous, emotionally moving, his artworks are inspired by the lands through which he has traveled and are imbued with his personal memories.
The artist combines ink with gold dust, bits of cloth, objects he has picked up at Asian markets, and Portuguese bead embroidery. Rather than brushes, he prefers renge and ryoribashi-Japanese cooking utensils. Instead of stamps, he uses mahjong tiles. Everything serves as an opportunity to explore new territories, to embrace new horizons.
Lefeuvre's work is not only an invitation to travel, it is an expression of subjectivity, of an archeology of the self.
