In 1954 Rex's father left him and his mother. This book is the story of his life growing up without a father.
He describes different events throughout his life that shaped him into the adult he became. As an adult he
overcomes a codependent relationship with his mother that lasted over four decades.
At age 44 Rex finds the love of a young woman gives him the strength to break free from his mother, and to
get married. Over a decade of marriage, Rex discovers that his marriage has come to an end like his
fathers.
While Rex cannot stop history from repeating itself, he does decide to
stay a part of his daughter's lives after a two year divorce. During the divorce, Rex decides to search for
his long lost father. He locates his father in 2010, only to discover that his father has passed away in 1999
of throat cancer. Then Rex learns that because his father died alone, the state of Texas buried his body in an unmarked grave.
For the next eight years Rex struggles to work full time, be a non custodial parent, and try to find the legal proof that his father served
in World War II. With the help of a famous U. S. Senator, Rex finds the proof he needs. After eight years Rex is able to get a $10,000
personal bank loan so he can bring his father's remains home to Ohio from Dallas, Texas.
On January 08, 2019 Rex is finally reunited with his father at a freight terminal at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport. Less than forty eight hours later Rex had to say goodbye to his father. On January, 10 2019, Rex gives his father a proper burial with full military honors at Western Reserve National Cemetery.
The following weekend news of what Rex did for his father made the front page of newspapers around the country. His book is an attempt to show
the importance of a father in a child's life and also the importance loving, forgiving and honoring our parents.
