Omschrijving

L'Oracolo, also known as The Oracle, is a music drama written by Camillo Zanoni in 1915. It is a one-act play that tells the story of a Chinese woman named Ah Sing, who runs a brothel in San Francisco's Chinatown. The plot revolves around a series of mysterious events that take place in the brothel, including the arrival of a wealthy American businessman named Haldane who becomes enamored with Ah Sing. As the story unfolds, we learn that Ah Sing is not who she seems to be, and that she has a dark past that she is trying to escape. The drama is filled with themes of love, betrayal, and revenge, and features a cast of colorful characters, including a corrupt police officer, a vengeful ex-lover, and a wise old man who serves as the oracle of the title. The music in L'Oracolo is inspired by Chinese melodies and features a mix of Western and Eastern instruments. The opera was well-received when it premiered in New York City in 1915, and it remains a popular work in the repertoire of many opera companies today. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
