Ce livre présente les fondements de la socianalyse narrative, dispositif d'intervention sociale fonctionnant en Italie depuis plusieurs années. Il se fonde sur une analyse critique du fonctionnement des groupes sociaux, en particulier l'institution carcérale, dont les trois auteurs ont fait une longue expérience, utilisée comme analyseur social. Une attention particulière est portée sur la dissociation identitaire comme réponse normale aux tensions et souffrances que comporte l'adaptation aux relations groupales, institutionnelles et organisationnelles. La dernière partie expose la genèse et les modalités d'intervention de la socianalyse narrative, telle qu'elle est mise en oeuvre actuellement selon un dispositif appelé « chantier de socianalyse », en proposant la narration comme un nouveau mode de connaissance.
