Elidi, princess of the Kingdom of Birds, must journey across her island to find an antidote to save her poisoned father. Haydn, the dragoner, must return a stolen dragon egg before returning to help his mother tend to his ill grandfather. Taking their talking animals with them (who can resist a dog who talks back to you?!) they search the island for the four mysterious bird-deities, hoping to gather the ingredients to create the potion - but can they collect everything they need before the Tibowara ravage the island, and nobody in their right mind is left to tell the tale?
