The true tale of Irena Sendlerowa, a social worker inthe Warsaw ghetto in the early 1940s, during the early days of Germanoccupation. She is credited for saving the lives of 2500 Jewish children bygradually and quietly smuggling them to safety in small groups. While she iseventually arrested by Gestapo, imprisoned, and tortured for her actions, sherefuses to reveal her network and is condemned to death. She is ultimately savedfrom death by other members of herorganization.

This second volume focuses onIrena's activities following her incarceration, and her years long mission tolocate and reunite the rescued children with their families, which led decadeslater to her ultimate recognition. Her attempts to locate each of their naturalparents for reunion were as often heartbreaking as fulfilling.
