When Vinnie's parents literally sold her to Sterling Winters, Lord Glastonbury of Arbor Hall, in order to pay off the debts of their own extravagant lifestyle, they led him to believe that their only daughter was the one who had been a spendthrift. She went so far as to run away, but Sterling goes after her and gives her no choice but to go through with the nuptials. She agrees, on the condition that the servants who have taken care of her when her parents didn't are allowed to come with her.
Sterling is determined to teach his young wife that she won't get by with unnecessary shopping with him. When he chastises her for wearing her oldest clothes in an attempt to wheedle a new wardrobe from him, he doesn't realize that they are the only clothes she owns. He also can't believe how undernourished she looks. When the truth is finally revealed, will he let her go or will they realize they were meant to be together all along?
