The British approach, broadly based on multiculturalist theories, has been widely perceived one of the great liberal success stories of the post- war period, and - relative to the perception of ethnic dilemmas in mainland Europe - something the British do best. However, almost a decade ago there started a sort of backlash against multiculturalist policies.
