In the tumbleweed coastal retirement community of Porthpunnet, Luka is a gay caregiver who dreams of becoming an illustrator whilst looking after his disabled mum. When he receives the ultimate birthday present - a day off from his caring responsibilities - he sets off on an adventure in search of his misplaced youth. He meets Dan, a young man who lives in a van and shares his interest in art. Initially he sees the enigmatic stranger as a kindred spirit... until Dan proves to be anything but.
This is a special 10th Anniversary edition of the original screenplay for the Channel 4 television drama "I Don't Care", bringing the story of gay caregiver Luka Bartholomew to print for the first time in addition to its ebook publication.
An Own Voices story from a former young carer, "I Don't Care" was written by Pete Jordi Wood - praised by Attitude Magazine as "a strikingly talented writer". The Telegraph described the drama as "touching and poetic", whilst Time Out awarded it with a four star review. A "Pick of the Day" and "Choice" broadcast from critics across the board, the single drama first aired on Channel 4 in 2010 after its premiere at the Edinburgh International Film Festival. Directed by Harry Wootliff, actor Iwan Rheon lead a cast including Paloma Faith, David Leon, Mark Benton and Di Botcher. Now distributed internationally as a film by Peccadillo Pictures, the story continues to find new audiences across the globe thanks to its timeless gay coming-of-age narrative.
