Hugh Armstrong Robinson: The Story of Flying Lucky 13, an Aviation Pioneer details the life and accomplishments of aviation pioneer Hugh Armstrong Robinson ( 1881-1963). Beginning with his early motorcycle and automobile exploits, the text follows Robinson's career from ballooning and dirigible flights to gliders and powered airplanes. Flying with his "Lucky 13" talisman, Robinson had many first-flight feats and gave over nine hundred flying exhibitions. Known as a daredevil and a showman, he was also a problem-solver. He invented the tailhook--a device that lets airplanes land safely on the deck of a ship--a concept so successful it is still used today. As a mechanic, inventor, engineer, stunt pilot, test pilot, consultant, and writer, Robinson devoted the majority of his life to aviation and helped to make the dream of human flight a reality.
