UPDATED EDITION. One of H.P. Lovecraft's classics adapted into a comic book format. The U.S.S. Augustus is a nuclear powered submarine. Its crew is unaccustomed to picking up castaways, especially on uncharted islands in the middle of the Atlantic. But that is where they find Emma Loveless, sole survivor of a private jet crash, who has an unbelievable story to tell. The Pentagon contacts Marcus Steed who shows them a strange statue of a monstrous sea god killing a whale. Not just a sea god but an elder god once worshiped by the Philistines as Dagon. And now the U.S. Navy will return to those islands to investigate her story.
This Lovecraft tale is adapted by award winning comic writer Steven Philip Jones (CALIBER's Sherlock Holmes, Dracula). Lovecraft is considered one of America's most innovative and popular American horror writers. The master of the weird tale during the first decades of the 20th Century until his premature death in 1937, Lovecraft's distinctive style and canon of work has influenced many authors. Jones takes the classic tale and while remaining true to the source, brings them into the modern age which can sometimes make the horror even more terrifying. This tale is illustrated by Sergio Cariello who has worked on MARVEL's Hulk, Spider-Man, Thor, Daredevil, Captain America, and DC's Green Lantern, Superman, Wonder Woman, Deathstroke, and Batman comic book series.
In addition to the comic adaptation of the story, the original H.P. Lovecraft published story is also included in this volume.
