Ermitages en Pays Sherpa

En Himalaya, dans la région du Langtang, les ermitages monastiques népalais de Liping et de Bakhang ont été fondés par le maître bouddhiste de la lignée Drukpa, Sengdrak Rinpoché, tout près de la frontière avec le Tibet d'où il était originaire.

Moine bouddhiste et poète, Jigmé Thrinlé Gyatso s'est associé au photographe Yann Rollo van de Vyver pour réaliser cet ouvrage qui raconte simplement la vie monastique et érémitique en Himalaya. Matthieu Ricard, humanitaire, moine, auteur et photographe, a mis à leur disposition quelques trésors de ses précieuses archives photographiques. Laurent Deshayes, historien, présente ici la tradition érémitique dans le bouddhisme jusqu'à nos jours. Tenzin Dorjee, neveu du 5^e Sengdrak Rinpoché et photo-vidéaste à Katmandou, est l'auteur des calligraphies tibétaines. La présence et le sourire des 5^e et 6^e Sengdrak Rinpoché illuminent l'ensemble de l'ouvrage.

Ce livre montre et commente les cérémonies d'intronisation du 6e Sengdrak Rinpoché et celles du 10^e anniversaire de la disparition de son prédécesseur. Les photographies témoignent de manière flagrante de l'hospitalité de la communauté sherpa du village de Bakhang ainsi que des conséquences des tremblements de terre meurtriers de 2015.

In the Langtang region of the Nepali Himalayas, Sengdrak Rinpoche, a Buddhist master of the Drukpa Lineage, founded two monastic hermitages at Liping and Bakhang, close to the Tibetan border and to his birthplace in Tibet.

The Buddhist monk and poet Jigme Thrinle Gyatso has teamed up with the photographer Yann Rollo van de Vyver to create this book as a simple portrayal of the monastic and hermit way of life in the Himalayas. Matthieu Ricard, humanitarian, monk, author and photographer, shares here some of the treasures from his precious photographic archives. The Historian, Laurent Deshayes, gives an account of the eremitic tradition in Buddhism up to the present day. The Tibetan calligraphies are provided by Tenzin Dorjee, 5^th Sengdrak Rinpoche's nephew and photographer in Kathmandu. And the presence and smile of the 5^th and 6^th Sengdrak Rinpoche illuminate the entire work.

This book gives a unique view and commentary on the ceremonies for the enthronement of the 6^th Sengdrak Rinpoche and for the 10^th anniversary of the passing of his predecessor. The photographs reveal the wonderful hospitality of the Sherpa community in the village of Bakhang and also detail the dreadful consequences of the deadly earthquakes of 2015.
