Eventually a general in his own right, Knox and his artillery were key to ending the siege of Boston and securing General George Washington's first victory over the British, and Knox became one of Washington's most valued officers and dearest friends. This work, first published in 1900, features many excerpts from letters written by Knox and his friends and family. American journalist NOAH BROOKS (1830-1903) was a friend of President Abraham Lincoln, and authored a major biography of the president, Washington in Lincoln's Time, in 1895. He also wrote First Across the Continent, the story of the Lewis and Clark expedition.
