In her seventies, Jenny Baker set off alone to volunteer at Isaac Booi school in a South African township. From the very first day she was thrown in at the deep end, often finding herself alone in the classroom teaching children aged between seven and eighteen. During the three months she spent in the school she grew to know and love the children and their teachers and became known as Mrs Jenny or JennyGran.
Sharing long, hot, bumpy journeys with young travellers from all over the world she explored the Garden Route and the beautiful Wild Coast where she experienced life in remote villages with Xhosa people.
In Jenny's words: "Those experiences changed my life. Volunteering was unforgettable and humbling. If I can do it, anyone can."
