Being in love with the woman you want to forget is not something that the young and impetuous highlander Zac Philips takes well.

Some time ago, Zac set his eyes on Sandra, a young woman with brown eyes and hair who captivated with her smile. But when Sandra's father died, her maternal grandparents forced both her and her mother to leave the Highlands, their place of residence, and return to Carlisle, a place where neither of them could be happy, especially when her grandparents insisted on arranging a marriage for her.

Determined to save his beloved, Zac left for Carlisle, but when he got there he found Sandra laughing amused with one of those Englishmen. Blinded and heartbroken, he returned to the Highlands with the intention of forgetting her.

Without squeamishness or half measures, Sandra was chasing away her supposed suitors, thus earning the enmity of her grandparents and, over time, carrying the guilt for her grandmother's death.
