Cet ouvrage sur le nenge(e), langue créole qui compte plus de 60 000 locuteurs au Suriname, en Guyane, en métropole et aux Pays-Bas, offre, pour la première fois en français, une grammaire complète et facile d'accès de ses trois variantes, aluku, ndyuka et pamaka, parlées sur le territoire guyanais.

Après une présentation historique du nenge(e) et de ses locuteurs, l'ouvrage offre une description complète des structures (les sons, les noms, les verbes, la phrase) de ses trois variantes, illustrée par de nombreux exemples. Trois courts enregistrements de contes en aluku, en ndyuka et en pamaka, transcrits et traduits en annexe, sont disponibles sur un site web dédié. L'ouvrage s'adresse à un public élargi, notamment aux locuteurs et aux enseignants exerçant en milieu businenge, auxquels il apportera un outil actuellement inexistant, tout en contribuant à valoriser la langue et ses locuteurs.

This book offers the first detailed yet easily accessible description of the three main varieties of the Eastern Maroon Creole, Aluku, Ndyuka, Pamaka in French. This language, usually referred to as Nenge(e) by its roughly 60 000 native speakers, is spoken in Suriname, FrenchGuiana, metropolitan France and in the Netherlands.

Besides a careful description of its grammar, including its sounds, word and sentence structure, the book provides a brief overview of the history of the language. To facilitate access to the description, each aspect is illustrated with lively examples. Three brief audio recordings of stories in Aluku, Ndyuka and Pamaka are accessible via a dedicated website. The volume is aimed at a wider audience, specifically at native speakers who would like to learn more about their own language and at teachers working in an Eastern Maroon context. The book provides an invaluable tool for teachers, the first of its kind, and contributes to the valorization of Nenge(e) and its speakers.
