As a grandfather of fifteen, I have read many books about color names to toddlers and young children. I found them uninspired. There is so much beautiful form and color in this world: cartoon drawings just can not compete.

My first contribution to aesthetics in color name books was Parrot Colors. Gratified by the warm reception of books on color based on outstanding artwork, I found Familiar Indian Flowers by Lena Lowis. I digitally restored the beautiful artwork from this 1879 publication, and created this book
