Fabio Mauri (1926-2009) incarne en Italie la figure de l'artiste-intellectuel. Fabio Mauri : le passé en actes est la première étude consacrée au travail performatif de l'artiste qui a commencé au début des années 1970 et s'est poursuivi jusqu'aux années 2000. Construit à partir d'une large assise de sources, cet essai analyse la place de la performance dans son oeuvre ; la performance comme colonne vertébrale et moyen d'expression qui relie l'écriture, le dessin, la peinture, la mise en scène de théâtre, le cinéma, l'installation et couvre l'ensemble de ces années de
création dans une conception artistique résolument pluridisciplinaire et transversale où la Seconde Guerre mondiale et le « ventennio fascista » sont au coeur de la pensée de l'artiste.

Fabio Mauri (1926-2009) is the epitome of the artist-intellectual in Italy. His oeuvre, which spans the latter half of the 20th century, unclassifiable, stands apart from the principal movements of Italian contemporary art. It is a diverse and colossal work to which the archives preserved at the Studio Fabio Mauri in Rome bear witness.

Fabio Mauri : The Past in Acts is the first study dedicated to this artist's performative work, which began in the early 1970s, and continued up to the 2000s. Built around a broad array of sources, this essay analyses the place of the performance within his oeuvre. The performance as the backbone of his work, and as a means of expression that ties together
writing, drawing, theatre, cinema, and installation. The performance spans all of these years of creation with a resolutely cross-disciplinary artistic vision, one that puts the Second World War and the « ventennio fascista » at the heart of the artist's interrogations.
