Quoi que l'on ait écrit ou imaginé, le paysage monétaire de Grèce continentale est relativement simple durant la période hellénistique : il se résume pratiquement à deux étalons (l'attique et le symmachique) qui, par ailleurs, seront étroitement liés dès la fin du II^e siècle.

Nonobstant quelques traits épichoriques, la Grèce est alors une entité cohérente, à l'inverse des âges archaïque et classique : il semble bien que les royaumes des Diadoques et les nombreuses confédérations ont, sinon supprimé, du moins largement ouvert les frontières de la cité. À cet égard, les étalons grecs connaissent, mutatis mutandis, une évolution semblable à celle des différents dialectes : les diversités locales - propres, peu s'en faut, à chaque (...) - se voient peu à peu englobées et dépassées par un ensemble plus grand, une (...) construite à l'échelle de la Grèce hellénistique.

Despite the original impression, the money system in mainland Greece during the Hellenistic period was relatively simple : there were only two monetary standards (the Attic, and the Symmachic standards), which were closely linked from the end of the 2^nd century BCE.

With some exceptions, Hellenistic Greece appears to have been a coherent entity (unlike the situation in the Archaic and Classical periods). Neither the Kingdoms of the Diadochi, nor the numerous confederacies abolished the boundaries of the city-state, although they did open them up. From that point of view, the Greek standards developed like the Greek dialects : local disparities, characteristic of each city-state, were progressively included and exceeded by a greater unity, a (...) on the scale of Hellenistic Greece.
