However, the same could be said about living forever. It was this desire that began the Nosferatu. Matthias Covyre had put his fate into the hands of a fallen angel: the demon, Xaphan. Of course, it was not intentional. The demon had promised to give him immortality, but at a cost that Matthias was not willing to pay. By refusing to drink the blood of his brother, Damian, Matthias gave up his immortality. One must wonder, however, what Xaphan could have gained by bestowing Matthias with such a gift. Perhaps now that Jacob Covyre has accepted it – only by drinking his brother's blood in order to save both of their lives – the answer will be revealed.
