Rene de Chaperon, Gilles and the Countess de Oloron arrived in Cholet at the home of the Chaperon family. Rene finds his 'parents' murdered. Rene feels the pain of loss and devastation. After all, he loved Guillaume and Solange.
During a skirmish with the demon Arastot in the monastery, Gilles was wounded in the wrist. Now his wrist hurts and fester unbearably. Rene amputates Gilles' wrist.
Rene buries Guillaume and Solange. The Countess is also present at the funeral. She hardly came to her senses after the kidnapping and 'date' with the demon. After the funeral, Gilles goes to the best gunsmith in the city and orders him a special mechanical glove for Gilles.
Rene has a dream about Guillaume, who told about his sword with the Flaming Blade. It was with this sword that Guillaume carried out executions. Rene remembers this sword. The design of the sword is unusual, and its blade is decorated with a mysterious seal.
Soon Rene, the Countess and Gilles go to Orleans to the castle of the Marquis de Tourney, Eleanor's fiancé. Rene receives a generous reward from the Marquis for saving his bride.
Rene has a dream in which the demon Asmodeus and his mother, the Marquise de Montey, come to him. They demand that Rene takes their side. The restless spirit of the Marquise intends to take cruel revenge on King Francis.
Rene arrives at the residence of Henri Dengon, now he is the Chief Inquisitor of France. Rene finds his old patron dead. René and Gilles are accused of killing Dengon and therefore they hastily leave Orleans.
Along the way, Rene and Gilles find shelter in an abandoned hut. While Gilles is sleeping, the demon Arastot appears to Rene and intends to drag them to the Underworld. The demon follows the order of the Marquise. At that moment, Rene grabs the Flaming Blade sword and violently resists the Demon. Rene learns the history of the sword from the demon Arastot.
