DEATH WAS JUST THE BEGINNING OF MY PROBLEMS.
When dying was the easy part: Confessions of a reluctant soul retriever...
So, long story short, I died when I was hit by a truck full of chickens. Right, I literally got chick-filleted.
But it wasn't my time to go.
So, why did I go cluck-cluck-die?
Answer: Bill, my guardian angel (obviously light on the 'guardian' part).
Now I've been offered a second chance at life, courtesy of AfterLife Enterprises. But beware the small print.
Small print? I have to work as a soul retriever, venturing into the bowels of the Underground City (aka hell) to rescue souls that were mistakenly sent there during a Y2K computer glitch. Seriously.
My guidance counselor for this new adventure? None other than Bill-my incompetent, womanizing and completely useless guardian angel.
Enter Tallis Black, a centuries old Celtic warrior, and a man who hates himself almost as much as he hates the rest of the world.
He's dark, dangerous, and definitely hiding something.
I'm not sure why Tallis is offering to help lead me through the Underground City, but I either accept his offer or risk dying... again.
Between dealing with Bill, learning to wield a sword, navigating the nine circles of hell, and trying to figure out what's really in it for Tallis, I'm pretty sure I would've just been better off dead.
