Omschrijving

Set in the Jute Mills of old Dundee at the turn of the 20th Century, Annie Pepper and her sister Mary try to find some happiness, as they realise that it is the men in their lives who ultimately decide their fate. Having both fallen for the same man, who stole Annie's heart and her virginity before also bedding Mary, the story tracks the sisters journey from Northern Ireland to Dundee as they follow Billy Dawson across the water. But as the fates and love continues to find them and then desert them, the sisters realise that the bond of love they have for one another is the one constant in their lives and something no one or nothing can break. Follow Annie's story as she becomes a Dundee Weaver in the jute mills and discovers the friendship and support of the other women, who like her, have to 'work or want' and share the tears and laughter of her struggle to find love and happiness in the noise and grime of the Jute Mills of Dundee.
