Everyone knows the tale of the poor boy finds a magic lamp containing a genie and eventually marries a princess. The story was told by Scheherezade in One Thousand and One Nights. It has since been told in opera, film, and, of course, children's picture books. Our version is adapted from C.H. Lawrence's 1934 publication.
Aladdin's story is beloved for its vivid imagery. This version retains C.H. Lawrence's wonderful renderings of the cave with its jeweled walls, the all-powerful lamp, the genie's sudden appearance, the Sultan's court, the beautiful Princess, and more.The reworked text conveys the story's potency and suspense, but has been simplified for younger readers to enjoy all on their own, or even read to their parents for a change!
