Covering the central part of southern Shropshire, including Wenlock, Upper Corve Dale and the Stretton Hills
The central part of south Shropshire which includes the parishes treated in this volume is a region traversed by ridges and dales, and, as elsewhere in Shropshire, the open fields and the woodlands shrank as pastoral farming and separate fields expanded from the late Middle Ages. The area contains some notable medieval houses but is more obviously characterized by a rich array of 16th- and early 17th-century manor houses.
